SPIRIT OF THE FRINGE 2009 - Port Charlotte PC8
For the third year running, all visitors to Whisky Fringe were given the chance to vote for their favourite spirit tasted that weekend. In a clear cut victory for peat lovers, PC8 Port Charlotte was the outright winner this year. Its name will be engraved on our the Spirit of the Fringe silver trophy coaster and a bottle will sit proudly in our Edinburgh shop display cabinet until next year, when it will be replaced after Whisky Fringe 2010 by the next winning spirit.
In our simple prize draw, we chose one lucky person at random from those that voted as the winner of a £100 voucher to spend at Royal Mile Whiskies. That lucky winner was Mr David Anderson.
Results
There was a better turn out from the Whisky Fringe Electorate this year, with just over 57% of attendees voting. The top ten bottlings of Whisky Fringe 2009 as voted for by our customers were as follows:
1.Port Charlotte PC8
2. Glenmorangie Signet
3. Black Bull 30 year old
4. An Cnoc 16 year old
5. Arran 1997 Peacock
6. Glenfarclas 30 year old
7. Edradour 1997 Chateauneuf du Pape
8. Gordon & Macphail Longmorn 1971
9. Bruichladdich Infinity 3rd Edition
10. Hazelburn 12 year old
In total an amazing 148 individual different spirits were voted for, so thanks to everyone who participated and managed to write their details in a legible way! Of particular note, we are very proud of the number of smaller companies and independent bottlers that exhibit at Whisky Fringe. Their range of individual bottlings undoubtedly cause the most debate amongst aficionados. Listed below (in alphabetical order) are a selection of highly regarded spirits (as discussed by visitors both during the weekend and on various subsequent whisky forums).
